Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic team member to join our busy production workshop. In this role, you will be responsible for the fabrication, assembly, and construction of commercial vehicle bodies, working from raw materials and initial components through to the finished product. This position requires a high level of metal fabrication and assembly expertise, including measuring, cutting, drilling, fitting, and finishing steel and aluminium components. The ideal candidate will be practical, detail-oriented, and eager to grow their skills in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, assemble, and construct a wide range of commercial vehicle bodies in accordance with engineering drawings and design specifications.

  • Carry out high-quality metal fabrication tasks, including measuring, marking out, cutting, drilling, grinding, and fitting steel and aluminium components.

  • Assemble structural frames, body panels, doors, floors, and ancillary components to precise tolerances.

  • Accurately measure, mark, and cut materials such as steel, aluminium, and composite panels.

  • Safely and effectively operate a range of fabrication equipment, hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools including air guns, drills, grinders, and saws.

  • Perform mechanical fastening, riveting, and fitting to ensure robust and durable assemblies.

  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality and safety standards.

  • Work collaboratively with team members to meet production deadlines and quality targets.

  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment at all times.


Essential Attributes & Skills

We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following key attributes:

Workmanship

You must have excellent dexterity and a proven ability to work precisely and efficiently with your hands to produce consistently high-quality work.

Metal Fabrication Experience

You should have substantial hands-on experience in metal fabrication, including the cutting, shaping, fitting, and assembly of steel and aluminium components to engineering specifications.

Manufacturing Assembly Experience

You should have strong experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment, with a solid understanding of mechanical assembly processes and techniques.

Measuring and Cutting Skills

You must be highly proficient in using measuring equipment (e.g. tape measures, squares, and levels) and experienced in operating hand tools, air tools, and fabrication equipment for cutting, drilling, and fastening materials.

Drawing Interpretation

You should be able to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications accurately.

Interest in Developing Skills

A genuine enthusiasm for learning and advancing your expertise in the fabrication and assembly of box bodies, curtain siders, and drop-side trucks is essential.


Desirable Experience

While not essential, the following would be a significant advantage:

  • Previous experience in commercial vehicle body building or commercial van fit-outs.

  • Welding and fabrication qualifications or certifications.

  • Knowledge or experience of auto electrical work.

  • Experience working with hydraulic systems or tail lifts.
